If you own your own business, real estate, or investments, you’ve definitely heard of taxes.  If you have a job, you’ve heard of taxes.  You’ve probably even heard of the two things in life that are unable to to avoid; death and taxes.  Yes, we all have to pay our fair share of taxes.  They keep our streets from falling apart, help educate our children, and stop foreign invaders from coming in.  Taxes play a huge role in our financial lives, whether it’s shopping for household furniture, or paying that yearly tab to Uncle Sam.  The more knowledge you can gain in the area of taxes, the more money you can keep for yourself, and spend as you’d like.  And you probably like that!

For 95% of us though, we’ll never know as much as our accountants.  Of course it’s their job to keep abreast of the ever-changing tax code, and the implications it has on your bottom line.  But don’t let that stop you from learning and understanding some general tax topics.  There is some valuable information tucked away in our articles that will help you make smarter choices, and prepare for that meeting with the tax accountant, mor online session with your favorite tax software.

Make it a habit to work on reducing your taxes throughout the year.  So many of us procrastinate, and start thinking about our taxes come March or April, and forget about them again until the next year.  You work hard for your money, so arm yourself with some simple tools that will allow you to keep more of it for what you want to spend on.  You’ll likely discover deductions and credits that you may have not thought about before, or your accountant hasn’t mentioned.  You’d be surprised at the rewards you can find that can create a lower tax bill for the year.
